Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to search are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk or chit-chat. Also, the community decided long ago that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Daily Q&A threads. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.)

Barbell squats v Bulgarian split squats for mass?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 10:29 AM PDT

I've been barbell squatting for 5 years 1-2 times a week. I do enjoy them but really feel like I need a break from them to be honest (yes my form is good). I probably will start them again in the future.

I've have built my legs up to a standard that I am pleased with and train specifically for shape/bodybuilding so an alternative to squats where i can maintain size or even add size is a must.

I really don't like leg press as I only feel it in my knees.

For hamstring and glutes I do RDL's so will keep those in and of course calf work.

It's more of a quad mass builder I am looking for and looking at many different varieties split squats seem the best choice? I have done lunges many times but never really found them good for mass, only an accessory exercise.

Has anyone here stopped squatting, which exercise did you replace to keep your mass for legs, specifically quads?

    Thanks in advance!
