Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it.

Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to search are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

Be aware that the more relevant information you add, the more relevant the answers you receive will be. And if you are posting about your routine, please make sure you follow the guidelines.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk or chit-chat. Also, the community decided long ago that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Daily Q&A threads. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.)

If coffee is a good "natural" pre workout, what would be a good post workout ?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 11:36 PM PDT

Also, would green tea be a good substitute for coffee ? Yes, it contains less caffeine, but I read that the amount of caffeine doesn't matter as long as it is ingested 45 minutes before a workout.

Edit: lowkey overwhelmed with all the responses ! I'm very thankful to everyone who answered and I apologize for not being able to reply to all af you. The consensus seems to be "food, preferably high protein, better if added to grains and veggies". I will do my best to apply this. Thanks again

How to increase volume for an exercise without running in to the ground?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 03:21 AM PDT

Hey so I use the pendlay row as my main back movement. I have rowed anywhere between 1-3 times per week, with varyng results for 2.5 years and been able to get 100kgx5. Of course, the reps are strict but grindy and my lower back is paying. I have used high volumes like 5x10 but would like advice on how to properly increase volume over time for this assistance movement. I have the freedom to row 4 days a week, so dont mind light days. Thanks

If you had to design or recommend the optimal workout plan for general fitness and healthy weight, what would you recommend?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 03:07 AM PDT

I'm after a workout that could adapt for the total population so maybe needs to have ways to work areas of weakness or variation based on levels?

What do you do the next day after a night out diet wise?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 02:15 AM PDT

    Hey,

I am 20M currently trying to lean bulk. I hit my protein target yesterday before going out but probably consumed 2k+ in dead calories. It got me wondering if it's better to have a low calorie day today (with higher protein) or just continue as normal. Obviously doing stuff like this isn't ideal but otherwise I am very strict with my diet. Probably doesn't make much difference unless its regular but it would be nice to know for future reference.

    Cheers

Am I working out wrong? Questions from a newbie

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 12:07 AM PDT

    Hey everyone!

1~ I started going to the gym this year and took a 3 week break because I was traveling. I went back to the gym today and could barely finish my basic routine and felt nauseous and dizzy. Is that normal?

2~ Another question is how much do I eat or drink pre work out? I usually eat 2 eggs and some oatmeal and wait an hour.

3~ Do I work out till I feel sore?

4~ I bought protein powder. Do I drink mid workout or post workout?

    Thanks 😁
