Daily Simple Questions Thread - May 27, 2021

    Posted: 27 May 2021 02:00 AM PDT

Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

How to target the right muscles when I am working out?

    Posted: 26 May 2021 01:33 PM PDT

Recently I have been diving more into making myself a fit person. I used to just do the movements, go through the motions etc. but recently I have been working to improve my form a lot. However, I realize that a lot of times I am not feeling the intended muscles working. For example, I don't think I've ever felt my chest work during a bench press, but I feel it a lot in my arms and low-key in my legs because I'm pushing so hard into the ground. Weird, right? Additionally, yesterday I was doing push-ups and I felt them in my arms/shoulders, nothing in my chest. RDLs, that shit burns my quads; pull-ups, nothing in my lats. Are there any movements I can incorporate into my warm-up (which is currently only stretching to expand my ankle mobility and thoracic spine) that are really hard to screw-up and that work muscles I have trouble activating/using (ie movements that only work my lats, chest, etc.). Thanks! Sorry if this post was a little confusing.
