- Why do old school (60’s, 70’s, and most 80’s) bodybuilders look different muscularly than new age (2000’s to present day) bodybuilders?

Posted: 18 Jan 2021 10:14 AM PST With the coming of Shawn Roden, Brandon Curry and now Big Ramy (despite being big he has a good waist and the conditioning he brought last year was great) where do you think the direction of bodybuilding is going towards? Is aesthetics now a necessary in the open class to have a pretty physique? What do you guys think? [link] [comments] | ||
Posted: 17 Jan 2021 09:17 PM PST I'm not sure if there is a definitive objective answer to this but recently rewatching pumping iron for the 100th time, I'm just stuck on the question of why guys like Arnold, Lee Haney, Serge Nubret, Franco Columbo etc. look vastly different to the new guys we have today. I'm not talking about sheer mass or symmetry and proportions. That's obvious and it just results in how the sport of bodybuilding has changed. But the old school guys all had this absolute paper skin shredded look while still maintaining this odd aesthetic smoothness and fullness to their muscles that made them look insanely full and round. It's a huge difference from the bodybuilding we see today where even in classic physique, the competitors are very grainy and striated and seem to just have these blocky muscles that seem almost inhuman. Much different than the aesthetic Greek statue-esque bodybuilders of the golden age. Is this a result of gear cycles, supplementation, training differences, diet, or something else? Curious to hear some opinions and ideas. Thanks [link] [comments] |
