Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

Is the “fat burning zone” in cardio a real thing?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 01:05 PM PST

When doing general research on google, I've found that most websites talk about a fat burning zone for cardio, which is 70% of your maximum heart rate. What is the point of being in that zone and on what basis is that 70% figure calculated?

    Low temperature excercise

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 02:03 AM PST

Yesterday I had a HIIT sesion outside. The temperature was -12°C (10°F). It felt much harder than my normal training at around 0°C. My HR was spiking fast and took much longer to get back to baseline. Is it normal? Do you also have expriences with low temperature training? Are there any benefits to it?

    Losing belly muscle?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 03:33 AM PST

So I basically work out 5 times a week but only do crunches in my workouts. Now my question is before I did Crunches, planks and mountain climbing as an exercise for my belly. Do you think I will lose muscle on my belly now when the only exercise that is focusing on it is crunches. I still workout the rest of my body back/shoulders/biceps etc and jog for around 30 minutes a day.

I look better on some days than others

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 03:27 AM PST

On some days, my muscles, especially my pecs look better. I'm also stronger on those days. Does anyone know why this happens and how do you make your muscles look the best all the time. It's not due to pump either because this also happens on rest days

Im at the gym and 2 days in a row now I've seen this one dude work himself to the point that he's stumbling around the gym.

This man looks like hes 35-40 years old, he has taken up 3 different pieces of equipment and when he rotates between them he just stumbles around looking like he's struggling to stay upright. Is this not very unhealthy? He was here same time yesterday.
