Strengthen Your Core (Beginner Friendly Abs)

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 06:45 AM PST

There's so much more to ab training than yanking on the back of your neck and calling it a crunch. This might be beginner friendly, but it's still a tough ab workout.

The moves will come in 30 second pairs. Move A for 30 seconds, immediately into move B for 30 seconds. After each pair we'll give you a brief rest. There will be one scheduled minute long rest in there as well.

Strengthen Your Core (Beginner Friendly Abs)

We're doing it in this format for maximum burn on the abs. Abs under constant tension will give you a better workout than tons of reps spaced out over a longer time.

A well structured ab routine should target the entire core. That means we use our legs, we rotate, we prevent rotation, and we crunch. But at no point are we yanking on our neck to do 300 mini-crunches.

We're starting with the lower abs and working our way up and around to upper abs and obliques. (Always start with your lower ab training. Adding in the legs adds a good bit of extra weight and this will fatigue faster. If you wait until the end to do the heavier or more involved moves, you'll be too tired to get the most out of it).

    Here's the pairs:

    Pair 1

    • Reverse Crunch
    • Crunchy Frogs

    Pair 2

    • Seated Ab Circles
    • Seated Ab Circles (Other direction)

    Pair 3

    • Twisted T's
    • Marching Planks

    Pair 4

    • Crunch and Twist
    • Frog Crunch

    Pair 5

    • Oblique or Accordion Crunch
    • Oblique or Accordion Crunch (Opposite Side)

Let us know how you did and if there's anything else you'd like us to cover in the future.

And please... stop yanking on your neck and calling it ab training.

One last note - It's important when you're doing any kind of core training to appropriately engage the abs. That means when you're lifting your legs or sitting up, you're not relying on your hip flexors.

If you're lying down (for something like a reverse crunch) try to drive your lumbar spine into the mat below you. Keep your back pressed down to keep things engaged and squeeze as if you're bracing for a punch when moving. If you're sitting up, change your mindset of raising your head and shoulders to lifting your chest to the ceiling. Shoot straight up and again, brace for impact.

I want to start, where do i start?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 09:06 AM PST

Hello, I don't exercise much. I'm technically overweight for my height, but im more skinny fat than anything.

I saw a tabatta workout on youtube. I tried it. I was very exhausted..but able to recover relatively ok.

Should i continue? What cardio workouts or at home workouts should i start with?

    Thanks
