Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

Can i increase deadlift sets from 1 to 2-3 in the PPL/PPL program for beginners or will i encounter too much fatigue?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 10:44 PM PST

    Disclaimer: I've already the FAQ

So I'm switching out of SL 5x5 and going into this PPL/PPL program that was posted a couple of years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/37ylk5/a_linear_progression_based_ppl_program_for/

The thing is it it lists doing 1 set of deadlifts, could i reasonably amp this up to 2 or 3 sets or is it that counterproductive?

Beginner question - what does it mean by “keep ___ tight “

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 11:50 PM PST

As in like, if I'm doing an overhead press they say to activate my glutes and my core

Does this mean to actually contract the muscle as I'm doing the exercise ? Like contract my abs etc as I'm doing the exercise

    Thanks

what endorphin producing cardio exercise can you do daily?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 01:33 AM PST

i suffer from horrific mental health.... the only thing that seems to tame it for me is running. a 30 minute run and i feel amazing! this kicks in after about 20 minutes. so im guessing its the endorphins.

however, like everything in this world it seems, if its too good to be true it usually is. daily running like this gives me "overuse injuries". mostly knee pain.

now i know its a combination of weak muscles and doing too much too soon... so ill be working on those things. but other than my knees i feel i could do this daily.

are there any other cardio exercises, that would produce the same mental benefits, that i can safely do every day without overuse injuries.

swimming comes to mind, but pools right now arent open.
cycling doesnt seem to give me the same buzz and endorphin release.

    maybe rowing?

Can't decide on the right workout routine, need help!

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 12:00 AM PST

    Hello,

So I'm currently a returning gym goer. I wrestled throughout college at around 220 lbs, and used to have mandatory lifts during the week, so I'm somewhat of an experienced lifter. I've managed to lose a hold of myself and get up to a total of 280 lbs, sitting at a nice height of 6'2. My main goal at this exact moment is to lose 60 pounds by Graduation, which is in May. (I've lost 35 in 30 days for a wrestling tournament, so it's nice to be doing it over a longer period of time) I would like to be around 220-230 by that time. I'm trying to shed the fat, as well as gain the muscle back from what I used to lift at. I've scoured the side bar so much, looking for the right routine, but just can't decide to choose one. Any recommendations? Thank you so much for your time.

    Walking around the house

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 03:45 AM PST

Im in pretty good shape, I'm going for that bulky looking physique, anyways I havent been able to lift weights for a while due to injury, I started off by running or doing HIIT cardio 4-5 days a week to maintain fitness level, I would rather lose weight than put it on whilst I can't train, it lasted for a month, but I just lost all motivation, I really miss lifting, I was easily smashing 20K steps a day through my activities, however over the past couple weeks motivation has been at an all time low, I'm rarely making it past 10K.

Anwyays today I've gotten up with a change of heart and I think all I needed was a little rest, but rather than jump right back into it, I wanna start slowly and work my way back into the runs etc, would walking around the house be a good way to start? My house isn't very big, would probably take 45 seconds to cover every room from top to bottom, but I do have stairs, which take a little extra effort, if I spent 25-30 minutes a day walking around my house, is this a good place to start?

How to overcome feeling like I will never reach my goal?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:01 AM PST

have just started working out 2 weeks ago and am shocked that ive been consistent for this long. Im 22F, 51kgs, 5"5. My goal is to build muscle and get bigger. I work out at home with dumbbells and BWF. I will hopefully join a gym soon but I'm not so sure.

I have increased my protien intake and calories. I eat around 1,500 cal, aiming for 100g of protein a day.

I feel like I'll never reach my fitness goals. I just think I'm going to give up eventually, seeing how hard it is, my brain is completely overloaded with information about fitness everything, scared im going to gain weight instead, feel like im not going enough.

I really want this to last and I succeed.
