Has anyone experienced the opposite of all of the supposed social benefits of seriously lifting? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 02:41 AM PST I've been lifting for a few years now. Worked my way up to a 340 bench and a 525 deadlift, so I don't look too bad these days However, I've noticed that people are less friendly and more fake. Not the opposite. They tend to not really want to hang out with you unless they have to. I'm mainly referring to members of the same sex. Members of the opposite sex assume that you're out of their league. It really wasn't the same when I was a twig. I was even told by a "friend" that he'd never bring women around me at this point. Going into some social gatherings, I'm the guy people instantly look at when people ask hypothetical questions that have to do with fighting or other types of violence. I've had guys outright say they wanted to fight me to prove something to themselves. Also when I started seriously lifting, I noticed that a child hood friend started to drift away to people that were on his "level". I think this is something that more people need to talk about because most people assume that we are the people that everyone wants to be around, but I think our discipline intimidates people. More importantly, I think it actually OFFENDS them. Lifting can cause you to be a lonely person. [link] [comments] |

Standard vs Suicide Grip: How to Grip Safely on the Overhead Press? Posted: 12 Dec 2020 07:37 AM PST A couple sources I've seen have recommended a suicide grip for the overhead press because it reduces stress on the wrists, but I am terrified that 100+ lbs is going to slip out of my hand and land directly on my head or worst, hit someone else. Is there any way I can grip the bar safely while also relieving stress from the wrists caused by a standard grip on The Press™? Edit: I'm not sure why this has been downvoted so much. I guess you guys are fans of the thumbless grip. Edit 2: thanks for all the helpful comments. [link] [comments] |
