Strength Training - How to Set up a Program?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 06:55 AM PDT

I've gotten cardio down, but am at a loss for how to set up a beginner's strength training program. I'm a 50 year old female, with about 10 pounds to lose. More importantly, I need to build up strength.

Years ago when I did regular strength training, I did upper body exercises M,W,F and lower body exercises T, TH, S. I used machines at the gym. I didn't see much changes, though.

I'd like to use exercise bands (if I have to), dumbbells, and bodyweight exercises. I also have a chin-up bar for when I'm strong enough to use it.

I am not afraid of pushing myself. I just want to get strong again.

Links to other Reddit answers or website resources would be appreciated as well. I just need a roadmap to get started. I have the motivation.

    Thank you.

Need help with setting up more workouts for a full body workout at home (have a mat and a rowing machine, so mostly bodyweight stuff for now)

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 01:17 AM PDT

I'm very new at training and I've started working out from home, I've adjusted my diet (mostly >.>) and made a plan for my workouts.

I want to get a full body workout and I definitely need help with picking up some more/better workouts.

I know the gym is a better solution than doing home workouts, but I want to get more stronger before getting to the gym and I honestly like doing workouts at home, I think I'd quit if I went to the gym in this shape.

I'm going to up the reps and sets when improving, the workouts that I'm currently doing are:

    1. Rowing on my rowingmachine.
    2. Situps.
    3. Pullups.
    4. Squats.
    5. Laying on my back and cycling with my legs stretched, not sure if it's a good body workout, but it's better than nothing. :D
    6. calf raises.

I don't have a lot of workouts and I'm most likely not covering the entire body, so please suggest some more workouts or simply a replacement if you think something does the same, but better.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see some good suggestions that'll make me wish I was dead!

    Fitness Exercises: Females vs Males

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 08:13 AM PDT

Many years ago I worked out with a female personal trainer, and later on a male personal trainer. I got in excellent shape with both of them. I found that each seemed to have their own way of building strength. The female focused more on functional exercises and dumbells, whereas the male focused more on machines and barbells.

Is there a difference between how males and females should workout? You know the old saying from women, "I want to tone, I don't want to look bulky".

    Questions for the Ladies

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 07:51 AM PDT

I admit I'm clueless about these things and am way too embarrassed to ask friends.

    1) What kind of sports bra do you wear when power walking outdoors?
    2) Does power walking look completely idiotic, and so should I switch to jogging? (Be honest!)
    3) Do you change your undies after exercising since you get sweaty? Do you wear exercise specific undies or a specific material to avoid a UTI?
    4) Do you wear a little makeup while exercising to avoid looking like you just rolled out of bed? If so, what kind?
    5) Sometimes I exercise twice a day if I can't get in a full hour. I'll do 30 minutes in the morning and again late afternoon or early evening. Should I put on my sweaty gym clothes I wore in the morning, or change?
    6) Exercise belt with keys and stuff--do you wear under or over your shirt?

    Thanks!
