Feel free to post things in the Daily Discussion Thread that don't warrant a subreddit-level discussion. Although most of our posting rules will be relaxed here, you should still consider your audience when posting. Most importantly, show respect to your fellow redditors. General redditiquette always applies.

Mandatory Pose Wednesday - Rear Lat Spread

    Posted: 06 May 2020 06:04 AM PDT

NEXT WEEK'S POSE: Front Double Bicep

Excerpt from Troy's post on r/bodybuilding's Second Annual Online Bodybuilding Contest:

POSES - You must submit, in addition to the code word photo, just one photo of yourself in each of the following poses for your category of competition. If you need help with posing, photography, dieting or proper attire, please search the web for guidance. There are many good sites and videos on each subject. Of course, our FAQ also has good information on contest prep.

Here I'll be trying to create a practice environment for us to critique one another in preparation for this competition! What good is a world-class physique if you don't know how to show it off when it matters most? (Note: I will unfortunately only be posting the male version of these poses. If you have ideas for a female version of these threads please let the mods know.)

Welcome back to another installment! We're hitting Rear Lat Spread today.

    1) First, as always, we will begin with the feet. Diagram here.

The feet can be the other way too, depending on whether you are stronger with your left or right side, but the general positioning remains the same. Make sure your rear foot is pointed outwards and that your knee follows in the same direction. This will allow your quad sweep to be visible from the back, and your whole lower body will appear much bigger.

    2) Ball both your hands into a fist but leave the thumbs sticking out, resembling a "thumbs up" position. Reach towards the bottom rear of your rib cage with your thumbs to lock your hands in place. Next rotate your hands so that the back of the hand is facing up, and the side fist is facing front. The trick with this is to make sure your elbows do not drift too far to the front. They still need to be pointed out to the sides to create the maximum illusion of width.

    3) After metaphorically "pulling your lats" around for width, you might need to play around with lean, either forward or backwards, to achieve the best illusion.

    4) Don't forget to flex the hamstrings and glutes!

    From /u/walril

"As with all posing, start at the feet and move up. Because the quads come into play, I like to anchor my heels, try to turn my knees out and flex the quads, along with squeezing the glutes. What this does is showcases the separation in the quads. From there I place my thumbs in the small of my back making sure my knuckled fist is at my sides and the pinky is slightly above my navel. As I bring the elbows past midline, I focus on not shrugging my shoulders While relaxing the lats. Also pushing into the sides of my body to further make my waist look smaller than it is."

    Examples:

    Phil and Big Ramy

Angle from the side to see foot placement better

    More examples

    What we're here for:

Critique the pose, not the poser.

Everybody is welcome to participate, this ain't 'mirin mondays so don't worry about the status of your bulk or cut. We are here to improve.

Every pose can be hit in more than one fashion.

Individual criticisms tailored to the posters physique are absolutely welcome!

More Difficult Muscle to Build, "Complete Thick Back VS Complete Thick Legs"

    Posted: 05 May 2020 08:36 PM PDT

Had an Argument with a friend Yesterday Night. So thought ill seek yall thoughts.

What muscle group is more difficult to build.. A World Class Top Back, complete with Rhomboids, Teres Major and Minor, Seratus... VERSUS Complete Diced Glues, Ropes for Hamstrings, Thick Seperated Quads and Diamond Calves. Which is Rarer to See among Pros..

Personally I feel a Thick Back is more difficult to grow especially at D Highest Level.. Guys who had great Backs were d ones winning d top shows.. (Dorian, Coleman, Heath, Flex, Haney, kai.. Etc

I feel a lot of d Big Average Bodybuilders have at Least Average Legs.. Its usually Conditioning dat kills dem.. But the Leg muscularity is usually there. But There are way more shitty Backs than Legs..

    P. S. Im not talking about which is more Difficult to TRAIN.. Im saying, which is more difficult to "GROW". Legs are obviously more difficult to train than Back Muscles..

But I feel if u put in d needed work, u will see Leg gains.. Back Requires more Soft touch.. U have to be more precise with ur Back training, Using Weird angles and getting Creative.. the Mind to Muscle connection is more difficult to Attain when training Back..

From d 2019 olympia, only Brandon and Probably Bonac had Top Quality backs.. I think the Back Muscles even Carry More points than Legs Muscles considering Brandons Shitty Legs and he still won.

What do u think? Back or Legs
