Women out there who managed the iron cross?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 12:59 AM PDT

I am a 26 yo woman, and have a goal to manage the iron cross sometime in my 30s. Wondering if any women out there managed this incredible skill? How did you go about it? What was your level of fitness when starting to train for it and how long did it take you? Many thanks :)

    When to replace Stank gear

    Posted: 25 May 2020 09:48 PM PDT

How long does your gear last before the stink becomes unbearable and you have to replace it permanently as washing won't cut it?

I've had clothes for 5 years and they lasted me well, but they seem to stink back up even after Borax, bleach, vinegar etc. Etc. What sort of usage do you get before they're gone for good?

Edit: It looks like bacteria gets attached and embedded into the fibers so it can't really be removed once it's so far in there...

Question for people lifting and running

    Posted: 25 May 2020 05:44 AM PDT

    Hey all,

    Tips / advice please.

I currently lift 3-4 times a week and run 2-3 times a week. i never do both on the same day.

However, there's a lot of times I would like to lift in the AM then run later in that day, but I always feel totally dead from the lifting and so that afternoon run never happens.

I do heavy barbell stuff (deadlifts, squats, press etc etc) early in the morning and would aim to run 6-7 hours later. I typically run anywhere between 5-10km.

Unfortunately i cannot swap things around to run in hte morning then lift.

Just wondering if people that combine both have any tips for having enough in the tank mentally and physically to run later in the day? I always just feel totally FUBARd, even after that long a break and a couple of meals.

    Verticla/leg workout

    Posted: 26 May 2020 01:06 AM PDT

I am looking for a workout that may be more than just calf raises and stuff, and I definitely want to include a good amount of daily stretching and hip mobility. Unfortunately I only have 10 pound dumbbells and my gyms are currently closed, so anything including those would be great. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Shoulder stability, best workouts for the strengthening?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 05:05 AM PDT

So I've had issues with my shoulder from playing hockey and rushing back. The last two times it seems to be subluxation as opposed to actual dislocations. One was about 4 months ago as I was stretching overhead. My god this pain was even worse then a full dislocation. I was in line at a store when it happened and I got light headed, sweaty, etc. but I digress. On Sunday I was playing two hand touch football, and pushed off my friend where my shoulder when in and out. Now a different motion all together as opposed to the overhead. But I was throwing the ball and making catches just fine. So I have to assume that it was on the verge of healing. Any thoughts of what workouts may work best for my issue ?

What heart and blood conditions facillitate greater cardiovascular performance?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 01:10 AM PDT

I was hoping to gather any information I can about the -heart, -"heart strengthening"(if that is actually a thing,)

-Blood volume, (as it pertains to aerobic and anerobic performance)

-And also lactic acid as it pertains to the cardiovascular system (if there is a relationship there.)

More generally I am hoping to better understand the mechanics of the cardiovascular system, as it pertains to increasing endurance, as well as any subsystems that may be related to this endeavor.

Furthermore, I would be interested to know of any scientific studies which present information which may be beneficial in optimizing bodily conditions in the pursuit of increased cardiovascular strength and endurance whether through diet, supplementation, specified training protocols or other

    Thank you

Where do I search for help?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 04:41 AM PDT

TL:DR I have joint pain when working out, what specialist should I see to get help?

I'm 18 years old and I experience pain in most of my body(hips, knees, shoulders, elbows etc) when working out. It's not severe pain, more like discomfort as most of my joints pop and creak. It feels like they are out of place.

Some background: my joints have cracked and poped for as long as I can remember, but it has never really been painful, until I started working out about a year ago. The pain hasn't gotten worse, it doesn't change if I sleep more, drink more or rest for longer periods(just had a 2 month break).

Should I see a doctor, physiotherapist, orthopedist etc?

Has anyone experienced something similar and which specialist could give you the best treatment?

    Static stretching before a workout?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 04:04 AM PDT

Everyone says static stretching before a workout is not good as it decreases performance and increases the risk of injury however I find it really beneficial to static stretching before a workout due to the increased flexibility.

I was wondering if I could static stretching 1-2 hours before a workout? Would that still decrease performance or does the decreased performance only happen immediately after static stretching.

What's happening to my muscle at maintenance?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 03:23 AM PDT

So I've not set foot in a gym since the start of March. I've not lifted any weights since, and I've transitioned to fully focusing on cardio (more running and more bodyweight circuit training). My weight has held at 73kg and I look largely the same. Ive kept my calories and protein high (2300 calories, 150-200g protein a day, 200-250g carbs a day, the rest filled with fat).

There are areas of my body I've been unable to work (like my upper and lower back) as I'd like to, due to not having weights. So I'm sure there has been some loss of muscle in these areas. But my weight has stayed the same, and I feel I'm leaner just looking in the mirror. My clothes are slightly looser than previously. The bodyweight exercises have become easier over time and I feel more...nimble when running. What's going on, because I'm surprised I haven't lost weight given I haven't been lifting?

(incidentally I've noticed a nagging rotator cuff injury from January I picked during benching has actually improved since not lifting at all and doing upper body exercises with bodyweight only)

    Posted: 26 May 2020 02:58 AM PDT

I have spent a lot of time reading from wiki and researchs articles yet I couldn't find what I am looking for

I want to know how much less calories people with hypothyroidism burn there is multiple levels of hypothyroidism I am looking for average

for normal people eating 300-500 less calories can make you lose or maintain weight (depends on metabolism) but with hypothyroidism maybe they will need more like 100-300 more calories deficit than normal people ?

anyone has idea/article/research or any answer for that ?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 02:29 AM PDT

    Hi,

So i'm currently trying to lose weight, and doing a full body workout one day and HIIT the next so they alternate, just wondering if i can maintain/build muscle mass while doing this with my calories and protein intake.

    Weight, 205 Ibs

    Height about 5ft 6

Calorie intake 1500 Calories per day, i have 2 protein shakes a day for the added protein.

Is Arnold split better than push/pull for people with small arms?

    Posted: 25 May 2020 09:58 PM PDT

Hello, I was doing push pull for a year and a half but noticed that everywhere on my body grew a lot but I still have tiny arms. Will Arnold split put more emphasis on arms since it is gonna be 1st day chest/back 2nd arms/shoulder 3rd day arms then repeat?

    How to get smaller calves?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 01:12 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

To begin, i've already used google to try and find some legitimate methods, but these that i've found seem to only be for people who are over weight, or are trying to get more "beautiful" legs as the articles put it.

I am not severely overweight, maybe by 5-7 pound on average, but have always had MASSIVE legs. My calves and quads have next to no fat on them and are purely muscle, unfortunately, i've read that large calves are bad for running economy, and as i am trying to become a faster runner, i would like to give myself every advantage i can.

Does anyone know any methods for reduce superfluous muscle on the calves?

    Thanks.

    44km (27mile) walk in 9 hours

    Posted: 26 May 2020 04:16 AM PDT

This was a lot of fun but also painful (due to blisters, chafing, sore joints etc.)

I would definitely do it again though. You get to see so many places you otherwise wouldn't see if driving. And the mental challenge is also satisfying!

    Partner weighted piggyback exercises

    Posted: 25 May 2020 10:06 PM PDT

I've heard of the farmers walk and I understand how beneficial it is as an exercise. I was wondering if carrying my girlfriend, who is a manageable -105lbs, over each shoulder/on my back would be a similar exercise in terms of benefits? I'm going to squat with her on my back, but I feel like the resistance from walking with her on my back for a few laps may be a nice challenge and allow me to get some weighted leg/stabilization work in.

Should I start going to the gym?

    Posted: 25 May 2020 11:45 PM PDT

Recently I've gained extra weight and I suck at losing it with diet. And I have good history with gyms. But now I think - should I go to gym if I'm huuuuuuuuuge introvert? And if I feel more or less fine but get tired of people telling me that I have extra weight? All I need to lose - is 5 to 10 kg. And I don't know if I should go again to gym. And there's more - I moved to new appartment, so it would be new gym. Kinda scary. What do i do?
