    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 02:00 AM PDT

Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

If I workout 2-3 hours a day but spend the rest of the day in bed am I cancelling my fitness out?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:24 PM PDT

Sorry if the title is worded poorly. I am training for a military selection (think competitive triathlon or something) and do the workouts that my coach prescribes 7 days a week. Either running and swimming, or running and lifting, or lifting and swimming. Lots of intervals and beatdown workouts. So I'd say fitness wise I'm very active, but other than that I spend 80% of my day sitting in my bed. I'll get up for class or to play video games but most of the time I'm in my bed.

I'm not usually like this, when I had in person college classes I volunteered at the fire station and was over at friend's houses all the time. Now that I'm home and doing online classes I don't really have too many friends to hang out with and spend most of my time at home.

How detrimental is this to my health? And am I more importantly limiting fitness my progression?

    Thanks!

What kind of specialist would suit these needs?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:11 PM PDT

I am currently 20 years old, and since my late childhood to about 3 years ago I was overweight and extremely inactive. I was always insecure about my appearance and losing weight was difficult for me, but at the age of 17 I decided I had enough and lost around 40 kilos (88.8 pounds) within the span of a year. Starting weight was 112.4 kilos and I got to around 72 kilos, though I currently sit at around 77. And I'm 6'1.

It was mostly just calorie deficit, and then I began focusing on my fitness. Toward the end of it I had a stubborn ~10 kilos to lose, and the keto diet worked magically for me to get over that plateau.

Once I had reached a point where I was happy with my results, I soon got into a relationship which introduced me to a lot of new people and my social life was blooming. I began focusing on other things, for the first time in my life it wasn't my weight and appearance that consumed all of my thoughts. I thus stopped being so antsy about going to the gym and lost track of my fitness.

I still struggle with a lot of body image issues, but all in all it doesn't cripple me anymore.

Though my weight loss was extremely successful, I wish I had done it more thoughtfully as the only thing I wanted to see was the number on the scales go down - and it was, rapidly - but I had little knowledge of fat mass/muscle mass and really could have supplemented better.

But anyway, I didn't - and I now suffer from a lot of muscular imbalances. My left shoulder is higher, my left hamstring is tighter, (though both are SUPER tight) one of my hips is higher, and the muscles in my back are very short. I have difficulty sitting for long periods of time, my walk is kind of awkward, my posture is difficult to fix. I have anterior pelvic tilt as well.

So, I have been on quite the journey with my body and it took a lot of courage for me to get where I am. I'm now at a place where I would love to build muscle.

I am after a specialist who would take my history into account (if relevant) and perform range of motion tests, and whatever tests necessary to give me a specific list of my weaknesses and imbalances, muscular and otherwise, and how to fix them.

Does that exist? I mean a long-term therapy type of situation - I saw a physiotherapist a few weeks ago but the session was half an hour and there was only so much talking we could do, he gave me some info and some dry needling/stretches to do later, but I just feel it's not in-depth enough. I want someone who knows what to look for to tell me EVERYTHING they can find..

I want someone who will understand my desire to gain this knowledge about myself and actually genuinely care about how I can achieve my goals. Does that make sense??

I'm super into fitness as of late but I'm too heavy.

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 01:20 AM PDT

22 M For context, I've been regularly working out for 6 months alrwdy but since the gyms closed I've been struggling a lot.

Basically I don't know why type of fitness/work out I should do. The problem is that I'm still very heavy even after losing a lot of weight. I weigh 160kg/350 lbs.

I've heard that only cardio isn't the best but I never understood why. I tried doing hiit workouts to have the maximum fat burn but the exercises there are way too difficult for me. Not only in terms of flexibility but also because of my knees or i just can't last longer than 20 seconds doing an exercise.

So I do a lot of muscle workout, biceps, back, stomach.. I do situps, crunches, Russian twists, Superman etc.

But it's very hard to actually gain muscle because of the amount of protein I need to take in and since I want to be in a calorie deficit. Plus I'm stuck at my weight for 2 months already.

Does anyone have any advice on what type of workout I should do? Thanks in advance!!!
