Daily Simple Questions Thread - March 20, 2021

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 02:00 AM PDT

Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

Why do some of you put pre workout powder straight into your mouths instead of mix with water?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 09:48 PM PDT

Is it supposed to hit harder/quicker?

Wouldn't dissolving it in water actually help your stomach and intestines digest it better due to it having a larger surface area once dissolved?

I'm not hating, genuinely curious. I personally feel like dissolving it in water is better but I see plenty of people doing it without so I'm guessing it must do something.

Edit: overwhelming response tends to be mostly laziness/convenience. Thanks everyone! My brain didn't even consider that...

Wtf happened to my bench press?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 03:46 AM PDT

Being doing ppl for a month now. Before ppl I was benching but not on a program just how I wanted. I managed to go from like 30kg to 75kg in like 3 months. Now I've started push pull legs I've seen increases in every lift apart from bench and I've actually gotten worse I think. Today I could only do like 5 reps of 62.5kg. It went from my favourite lift to my least favourite atm. Anyone know what's going on?

Any graduate students here? How do you balance working out (and getting enough rest) with your research and school life?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 02:20 AM PDT

Title is the question. I'm a CS grad student doing research full time. I want to stay consistent (sticking to a strict routine, getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep everyday etc.) but sometimes it's very difficult to fit that in. Especially given the nature of uncertainty regarding research.

I'm curious if there's any one else who could share their experience on how they balance it out.

    What Sport Do You Play?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 11:15 PM PDT

As the title asks: What sport do you play? How long have you played for? What do you like about it?

If you only lift, that's okay, too! How long have you been lifting? What do you like about it?

M or F or anyone else, go ahead and reply! :)

I did preacher curls, and now I haven't been able to fully straighten my arms without 6/7 out of 10 pain in my upper forearm/bicep area, anyone know how long I can expect this to last?

Having Trouble Getting Started With Your New Fitness Program? Here's Why...

    Posted: 20 Mar 2021 02:09 AM PDT

If you are having trouble getting started with your new fitness program, it's probably because you are selecting a day when all the energies are against you. Have you ever conducted an activity that you had really set your mind to, but just doesn't seem to be working out or going anywhere.

I have been using a Feng Shui date selection program that has really helped me get started and plan my days without the insecurity that the natural energies around me are working against me. I know you are very skeptical, but if you are not hitting your goals then at this point you don't have much to lose.

Consider starting your weight loss, detox or fitness program on wither 28.03 or 10.04. What's another week or two if you are ensured a successful start this time around and the body and mind you have always wanted.

Why not give it a shot, you'd be surprised how motivation and success can come from anywhere.

Just got my first tattoo today, any suggestions as to how long to wait before getting back in?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 10:07 PM PDT

It's a small piece, on my upper arm (but not quite my shoulder). The artist said I'd be good to go in tomorrow if I wanted to, but I definitely think I want to wait a bit, I'm just clueless as to exactly how long I should wait. Thanks!
