Daily Simple Questions Thread - February 09, 2021

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 02:00 AM PST

Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

Should You Cut Before You Bulk?: How Body Fat Levels Affect Your P-Ratio

Many people believe that if you get lean before you start a bulk, you'll gain muscle more efficiently. Their reasoning often relates to concerns about insulin sensitivity: if you have more body fat, your insulin sensitivity will be lower, so you'll gain more fat and less muscle in a calorie surplus. However, the evidence for this concept is surprisingly thin and shaky. In this article, Eric Trexler from the Stronger by Science crew delves into what the science really says on the topic.

Does the depth of Glute Bridges affect the effectiveness of the lift?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 03:18 PM PST

I have started doing my bridges on a leg extension machine, as the time to setup is greatly reduced, but the range of motion is probable only about 15 inches, where when I do them with a barbell on a bench it is closer to 24 inches. Am I missing out by doing them on the leg extension?
