    Help creating a routine

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 10:56 AM PST

    Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the correct sub for this post but I am in dire need of help creating a routine for someone who is very overweight.

For starters, this isn't for me, it's for my sister. I exercise about 4-5 times a week and do my best to eat right, but am no perfectionist. I want to help her in any way I can (we're currently working on dieting and that's a whole other can of worms).

My sister has had a horrific 2020 which includes but isn't limited to losing employment, divorce, and having to move back in with our parents. She's struggled for years with overindulging in food, something which has been exacerbated by the pandemic.

She's finally starting to acknowledge that a change is needed and told me today she's the heaviest she's ever weighed. She's about 5 foot, maybe 5'1 and easily 200 + pounds. It's honestly heartbreaking to see someone you care about struggling this much and I want to do anything I can to help out.

The issue is I have no idea where to even begin. She claims she wants to diet to lose more weight before even beginning, but even dieting is a struggle for her and there seems to always be an excuse. I am not harsh on her and only try to be understanding, but it's hard to sit and watch.

So where would I start with her? Should I invest in 1-2 pound dumbbells? This is someone who probably can't do a push up from their knees. My fear is she will agree to do one session with me and then get discouraged (she went with me to a yoga class and said the experience was humiliating and hasn't wanted to go back since).

I am open to any and all advice and really need some guidance here. Please serious replies only. 2020 has been a hard year for everyone and inflammatory posts only add to the pile.

Anyone have an issue with dislocating shoulders?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2021 11:43 PM PST

My joints are constantly popping and I dislocate my shoulders easy which is very annoying because I can raise my arm and it'll pop out of socket. Is there any stretches that could help? I've been resetting my shoulder for years at this point and I can't afford a doctor.

Cannot do Farmer Carries correctly with one hand (dumbells)

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 01:14 PM PST

I've been doing Farmer carries for a while and they have worked quite a bit! However, I noticed one of my hands not gaining grip/wrist muscle. My right hand is callused below the fingers/upper callus, but to be honest they are not that big...which makes me wonder what exactly is wrong.

I try to adjust my arms equally, but the callused hand refuses to cooperate and it is quite painful trying to constantly force it. Any ideas or thoughts? I'm not sure if the calluses are actually the problem, but it is all I can think of.

    Am I doing it wrong?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 07:16 AM PST

You know the thing that you rest your legs and thighs on and then bend down and up while holding a weight to train your lower back. I noticed many people barely go up while doing it. I go up more than just a atraight line, I almost turn into a D shape. Am I extending my back too much? Must look like an idiot :-/

Balance is an interesting aspect of Yoga asana. It not only helps in physical balance but surprisingly has a beautiful impact on mental balance and on focus and concentration.
