Daily Simple Questions Thread - December 05, 2020

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:04 AM PST

Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it.

Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to search are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

Be aware that the more relevant information you add, the more relevant the answers you receive will be. And if you are posting about your routine, please make sure you follow the guidelines.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk or chit-chat. Also, the community decided long ago that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Daily Q&A threads. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.)

How can I get into Olympic lifts as a teen?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 03:57 PM PST

I'm 15 years old and I've been lifting for about a year now. I lift for strength and I do a good amount of auxiliary work but I focus on the big lifts.

I've always loved watching Olympic weightlifting and I really really want to learn how to clean and jerk and snatch. I don't want to compete but I want to do these lifts. I know they are probably not very beneficial for me but I still want to learn and train them.

I've never had coaching but I've had no problems teaching myself proper form for deadlifts and squats with the Internet and self recording but I know Olympic lifts are a thousand times more technical. I want to know if it's possible to learn Olympic lifts that way. There's no way I can get coaching I work out at a home gym and my parents already spend a lot of money on me because of other things I'm involved in.

Is it stupid to want to learn them? And if it's possible what's the best way to go about it?

Should I switch off of PPL while cutting?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:34 AM PST

So i'm doing PPL 3x5 currently and before my cut I was dirty bulking (yep it was a bad idea i know) but i immediately switched over to cutting. I read that i should've did a maintenance week before starting my cut however, i read it too late lol. Today i tried doing push and my intensity and stamina is definitely shot after a week of cutting. I usually do 180 3x5 but i could only do three reps, two reps, and then one. i dont know if i should switch programs or keep at it and lower the volume? what would i even do in this scenario? because if i deload, is there a chance of me going progressing? btw I upped my protein by a lot for about 1g per lb
