    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:00 AM PST

Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:12 PM PST

Is it possible to get big and put on muscle just from calisthenics? Can someone explain the differences, advantages, and disadvantages to both calisthenics and Weightlifting?

Is it time to go all cardio?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 01:17 AM PST

I've been improving my compound lifts, but neglected cardio and overdid it on the weight gainer shakes.

I stand at 5'7, 175 lbs and 22% body fat. What do you recommend?

    Scapula movement during bench press?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:27 AM PST

Chris Duffin's people put out an interesting video on the topic of scapular function in the bench press that I thought was worth sharing:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwLNZQ-dFnk

The ideas offered in this video are interesting. The argument being offered by Duffin's group is that, counter to standard bench dogma, the scapulae should have some movement in a bench press. In this case, they're proposing more of an emphasis on depression and then consciously retracting the scapulae as you lower the bar, and allowing some protraction back to a neutral-ish scapular position as you raise the bar again.

Whats the correct way? I thought that benching with shoulder blades pinned together throughout the whole movement was the correct way.

How often should I change my routine per week?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:45 PM PST

I've been going to the gym for about a month now, I've got a decently conditioned body with a little bit of extra fat around my core legs (although my legs are the most muscular part of my body because I ride 10-20km per day just for work, then I work outside washing cars for 8 hours).

Atm I've got 1 routine going for me, but that was more for going 3 days a week and not the 6 that im currently doing, the one routine is intense but it focuses most of the muscles in my body. However after talking to my dad (trained by ex pro boxer trainer) he said if I'm going most days, I should have multiple work outs that each target different groups, then switch it up often. How many routines should I have, how often should I change it up, and where should I put cardio into my daily work out?

    Im a 20 year old male, 5'10, 90-92kg with a 30-40%BMI.
