Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it.

Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to search are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

Be aware that the more relevant information you add, the more relevant the answers you receive will be. And if you are posting about your routine, please make sure you follow the guidelines.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk or chit-chat. Also, the community decided long ago that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Daily Q&A threads. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.)

So I'm a little worried about my little bones

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 10:16 PM PDT

I'm not a big dude, 5'7" 135 and I've been trying to work my upper body more. I'm up to a 135 bench press (big milestone!) but every time I increase the weight I picture my arm snapping and the bar just decapitating me. I can easily grab around my wrists with my thumb and middle finger and I think my radius and unla are like... 1 cm in diameter. Should I be thinking of a weight limit here or am I worrying about nothing?

    Jump rope length

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 04:07 PM PDT

Sorry for my imperial friends, but i'am wondering what size should I aim when choosing a jump rope, i'am 1,85 meters. I decided to start jumping rope since where I live there is no gym and running in the countryside is pretty bad so it's the only cardio solution for me.

    Full Body Workout Everyday?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 09:26 PM PDT

I'll try to spare you all the details and cut right to the question.

I'm a 22 year old male looking for a fully body workout that I can do around 5 days a week. The same routine every time. I want to keep it to a limited number maybe like 4-6 different workouts. Goal is to gain muscle. I'll be working out alone. On top of this full body workout I will be doing a little cardio and core exercises.

Example: dead lifts, squats, lunges, bench press, barbell rows, barbell curls

Something like that? 100% want dead lifts & squats to be in there. I'll be working out alone so what's a good alternative to the bench press?

Trying to get back into working out and the main thing for me is just something simple, do you think this or something similar would be bad to do 5 times a week?

    Getting My Dad to Workout

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 10:39 PM PDT

Just joined this community after a small little episode at the dinner table tonight......

My Dad has struggled with his weight, being 214 lbs and it's only been harder after his surgery from his tumor in the brain.

Looking at him in this state at the hospital, I could only imagine what could have been done to be avoided. I don't want for him to be in that state ever again, and yet when we learned he gained 7 lbs from his last doctor checkup, that alarmed me.

I don't want him to go back to the hospital for a different health issue, we literally just got him back last January. Now that he's getting his normal appetite back, I'm unsure if he is gonna start eating the way he used to before the surgery. After the surgery he ate small amounts but time has passed since then and now he's becoming more normal again.

I kinda was an ass at the dinner table tonight, saying, "why are u drinking this much soda at night, DONT you wanna change." I know it's an ass move, but I just feel like if nothing is said he's just gonna continue to gain.

I wish that he can want to be healthy just as much as I want him to be because he's important to me. I can't control his actions and decisions, but I'll feel awful if I'm not at least giving nudges to him to work out.

I'm asking this fitness community any experiences or things I can do to help my Dad at least get healthy. He's been overweight for my whole 21 years of living. I know what he's capable of if he puts his mind to it, but I just wish he can put the same effort he puts in for work and other things he's passionate about, and applies it to his health. At one point of his life he was 170 lbs of muscle but that was before me. Now he is this, and I just want him to get to a healthier weight whatever it is.

    What can I do?

    Bodyweight exercises?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 10:28 PM PDT

I'm sure this is a pretty standard theme

I'm a university student, living on campus and I want to start working out. What are the best bodyweight exercises I can do?

I'm going to be honest, I am not a fit guy, but I really want to change that. I've heard that running is really great for weight loss

What are bodyweight exercises I can do to build muscle and if possible get rid of some lower body fat?

Any and all responses are appreciated!

    Thanks so much!

Will weight lifting make me lean or bulky?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 03:44 AM PDT

    Hey,

So I'm a thin 5'5 woman, but I've carry a bit of extra weight on my arms. I want to get rid of it so badly without losing too much weight overall, because I don't need to. Is weightlifting the answer? Or will this make my arms and shoulders bulkier and broader? Or will it make them leaner if I continue eating the same? Pls help, I just want thin arms :/.

    Hey guys and gals,

At first, sorry for my may bad / harder to understand english, I'm no native speaker.

I'm about to end my cut by next month and I just wanted to hear opinions / tips on how to improve my planned routine.

    I'm 28 years old, weighing 87 kg's and I'm at around 6-7% body fat.

My job is to sit around and talk to people - I'm a call center agent - the rest of my life is pretty easy to, so I've got plenty of time to rest / recover.

My best body parts are my legs. My worst body party are my lats (esp. the lower lats) and arms.

So I tried to build my own routine around that, trying to use the videos from the education section to my best. I'm open for any kind of suggestions to improve my split / body composition - I want to take me to the next level.

Should i lower the weight or the reps?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 02:21 AM PDT

Lets say im benching 50 kgs and am aiming for 8 reps by 4 sets. If i cant finish the first set with 8 reps, should i lower my weight during that set and finish it with the remaining reps? Or Should i just let that set be incomplete and move on to the next set with a lower weight ensuring i hit the 8 rep goal?

    Bicep curls

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 12:57 AM PDT

Recently I've realised my form for my left side is HORRIBLE. No matter how hard I try to correct it, it just won't budge. I've even tried to force it not to bend wrong with my other arm just to see if it would work and it still wouldn't

This has resulted in my forearm killing afterwards instead of my actual bicep

How can I fix this? Or improve the form on that side? Is there anything??

Lazy, bored, sad, when thinking about lifting.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 03:51 AM PDT

I've been fit before. Now I'm 120KG for a 5ft 8" guy. Obese. Everytime I think about working out again, I always think "I've done it all before, so what for?".
