How much less effective is our body in using plant protein vs meat protein for muscle growth?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 07:27 AM PDT

The other day I was listening to the jeff nippard podcast, and the episode had a diet expert, who said that meat protein is pretty much 100% used, but plant protein is not, but he did not state numbers. How much less effective is our body in absorbing plant protein, or more practically: how much more plant protein (like for example percentage wise) would I need to eat to achieve the same results as with meat/dairy protein? Any vegan people who are into fitness who can help me, all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    What should I (43M) do?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 09:02 PM PDT

I am reaching out to you for advice for a fitness journey I am about to start. I appreciate any and all advice that you can give me.

I am a 43 year old male, who has been pretty inactive for most of his life since leaving school. Work, family, booze and cigarettes pretty much sums up my life and honestly looking back at things I have severely neglected my mental and physical health. I want to change this, and in addition to smoking/boozing thing my biggest priority is my body.

My goals are to look and feel better, which will hopefully affect my mental health as well.

My biggest obstacle is my work requires me to travel a lot (roughly out of town 4/5 weeks out of every 8 weeks). Joining a gym is not an option, as most of the places I go does not have chain gyms. At best it has a small local gym, and I cant join 30 different gyms for 1 workout every 2 months. I travel by car, so can take limited equipment with me.

Bodyweight exercises is an obvious solution, however pull ups is a major issue.

If you were in a similar situation, what exercises would you do?

    Physique Phriday

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 03:04 AM PDT

Welcome to the Physique Phriday thread

What's the point of having people guess your body fat? Nevermind that it's the most inaccurate method available, (read: most likely way wrong - see here) you're still just putting an arbitrary number to the body you have. Despite people's claim that they are shooting for a number, they're really shooting for look - like a six pack.

So let's stopping mucking around with trivialities and get to the heart of the matter. This thread shall serve two purposes:

    1. Physique critiques. Post some pics and ask about muscles or body parts you need to work on. Or specifically ask about a lagging body part and what exercises worked for others.
    2. An outlet for people that want to show off their efforts that would otherwise be removed due to Rule 4, and

Let's keep things civil, don't be a creep, and adhere to Rule 1. This isn't a thread to announce what you find attractive in a mate. Please use the report function for any comments that are out of line.

So phittit, what's your physique pheel like this phriday?

    Selfmade Protein Bar Consistency

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 02:58 AM PDT

    Hello!

There are limitless recipes how to make your selfmade protein bars with protein powder. However those are often crunchy.

Do you know how to keep/make this sticky consistency.

Most of the commercial protein bars have this consistency :)

Tips for first time bulk in a limited space environment?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 10:46 PM PDT

I am wanting to start my very first bulk routine next month. It'll go from Mid Nov to probably April or so.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend some good guides to start bulking. I recently lost about 90 pounds and I feel that I have my macro understanding down pretty good, but any guides to help would be appreciated.

Also, I am very limited in my workout space unfortunately as gyms are closed near me. I have a workout bench and I have free weights... Is it still possible to gain muscle with such limited equipment? I think, to my knowledge if I remember correctly I have about 80-100 pounds of free weights to work with.... so I really couldn't do bench press or anything, but I could do flies and other chest exercises for example. I hope that I wont be limited to my success based on this factor...

    Any tips appreciated, thank you!

How would I (16M) lower my body fat %?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 12:18 AM PDT

    I'm 63kg (140 lbs), 175cm (5"9), with TDEE ~ 2200

My body fat is roughy 20% and I would like to get it down to 15% in ~3 months (2 if even possible).

I am in a 5 day PPL split, with HIIT 3 days a week.

What calorie % should I be running? I'm still in adolescence, so I don't want to damage growth.

    Feeling full during a cut

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 09:08 PM PDT

So I've been cutting for about 4 weeks and have just started lifting a week ago. Most of my macros are protein, specifically around 220. I eat about 2500 cal a day. I get really stuffed due to all the protein and it's making me wonder if I'm supposed to be eating less or if it's just normal to feel extremely full all the time regardless of the cut. 3000 cals are my maintance apparently.

Draining fat from ground beef to lower calories?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 12:57 AM PDT

Hi, i bought some 90/10 lean ground beef. When i cook it it gets too greasy for me. So what i do is i brown in first in a pan and then drain the fat once it comes out, i then wash the meat in hot water before i cook it again with spices. If i do this should i log the calories as 90/10 lean still? Or does the calories change for this one?

Do scales with body fat work?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 12:28 AM PDT

I've got a scale for about 30$ with basic functions like fat, muscle, water percentages. I know that it won't show me the right number, but I am asking, will it show differently if I lose fat?

My problem is that I am losing weight right now, 0.5kg a week, slowly with everything good, I keep muscles and strength is even rising. But even when I lost already 3.5kg(1.5kg was probably water weight) , it still shows 19.9% of body fat or around it, will it go down or I shouldn't look at the body fat percentage?

Working out with a belly button piercing

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:24 PM PDT

32F considering getting a belly button piercing but worried how that might impact workouts. I do CrossFit 3-5 times a week, maybe once a week of short distance (3 miles) running. As far as the daily life goes, it's either working sitting on a chair/couch or standing. Just wondering how belly button piercing has gone for other people while maintaining usual physical activity. Thank you :)

Beginner program with just 2 dumbbells' and a kettlebell?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:06 PM PDT

    Hello,

    35 M here.

I've been ignoring weight lifting because I've focusing on cardio (st. bike) to lose weight. I'm a heavier person.

But now my roommate was finally able to get a pair of dumbbells (20lb) and a kettlebell (25lb?). So I figure it's time to add strength training to my regime.

I've looked at many programs but they usually focus on equipment I don't have.

So what is a beginner program I can do with just this equipment?

What can I add to round it out?

    Thanks in advance!

    Im gonna need some help.

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 10:45 PM PDT

I'm a 14 year old M that's currently at 134 lbs and 5'5. Being "skinny fat" I want to know if I should try to achieve my "dream body". I don't know if a calorie deficit is good for a growing teen. I have several questions like should I bulk or cut first, is recomp possible for me (i am quite new to this), what exercises I could do without weights, what proportions of macronutients should I eat, how long would it take for results to show, where would I lose fat from first (I believe its genetics). I am clueless on what I should do right now so a little advice would help.

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:24 PM PDT

So as I continue to get stronger will I need to increase my calories even if my weight is the same? For example if I am 165 pounds but stay around this weight while getting stronger do i need to increase my calories?
