Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it.

Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to search are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

Be aware that the more relevant information you add, the more relevant the answers you receive will be. And if you are posting about your routine, please make sure you follow the guidelines.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk or chit-chat. Also, the community decided long ago that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Daily Q&A threads. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.)

3 weeks on Weights, 3 weeks on Cardio rotation?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 08:54 PM PDT

I only dedicate an hour and half 3 times a week to working out, and I've always always felt like I don't get anywhere flipping back and fourth between cardio and weights every other visit.

I read that using muscle memory to your advantage, you can take breaks from working out and still get the same gains as some one who took no breaks from a 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotation (this was with regular people as opposed to amateurs).

Long story short, would this rotation of cardio and weights be a compromise on either? I care more about my lifts. (2 years in to working out)

Edit: Thank you for all the feedback! I'm glad I asked before doing something detrimental.

how bad is it to not hit protein goals

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:19 AM PDT

im still a teen, and dont have a huge control over my meals. But i still try to get as much meat as possible during lunch and dinner, and eating more protein filled snacks other than bread. However meals are still mostly decided by my family and there are times where there would be a lack of meat. Thus i can't reliably hit a 100g of protein per day.

As im still a student from a somewhat poor family in a expensive country. i can't afford more expensive food like cottage cheese or even canned tuna, i might be able to get it once in a while but its not really a long term solution. I currently trying to eat more eggs, chicken breast, beans and nuts, but it will depend on my family if they were to get it.( being a poor family i wouldn't want to have them spend more money for selfish gains)

Im only 55kg, i was aiming for 120g-140g but i lowered it to 100g to make it more manageable, but i am still unable to hit it on most days, i will usually will be lacking 30ish g of protein or lower. I was wondering how bad is it to miss proteins goals by around 30g on most days? I lift 3 days per week and more cardio work on 2-4 days per week, would i be in danger of losing muscles?

Advice on slimming down and getting rid of stubborn flab without building a lot of muscle?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 04:31 AM PDT

Hello r/fitness! I'm 27, male, 6'2", and currently about 240lbs looking to drop down to 170. However I would mostly like to slim down without building a whole lot of muscle if possible. I also have a problem with stubborn flab on my gut and upper legs, as such that even at one point in last few years when I was underweight due to some mental health issues, I still had a flabby gut and legs. I would appreciate any advice anyone might have for me on diet and exercise and such to achieve this goal. Currently eating a 1500 calorie diet for the purpose of facilitating weight loss (that I plan to increase to 2500 upon hitting 170lbs), and walking an hour daily. Thank you very much! :)

Should I do cardio if I have a bad routine?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 04:16 AM PDT

Basically, I stay up at night and I go to sleep at around 7 AM. I wake up at ~2 PM, then I start my day. I eat fast food every other day. I don't even have a time for my meals, I just eat whenever I feel hungry (even at night).

My question is, would doing cardio (jogging) benefit me at all in this current state? I cannot commit to another routine because of the nature of my work. Can I improve my phisical condition if I don't eat well and have an uneven sleep schedule? I used to do boxing and I was in really good shape a few years ago, but having a diet and good sleep pattern isn't something I can afford right now.

How long does it take for Cardio Tolerance to go down?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 03:35 AM PDT

Hi all. I've built up quite a good tolerance over the years and I know train 6days for about 3 hours a day. Either doing circuits, runs, weights, boxing etc. However, let's say I did a Deload for 1-2 weeks, How long do you think it would take for my tolerance to go down? Anybody has any experience?
