Going into the 2020s decade, the Arnold Classic should just replace the Olympia as the flagship bodybuilding show

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 03:41 PM PST

I think this is overdue. The O has been resting on its laurels and brand image for too long. Every year the Olympia is a shitshow of a production and the Arnold literally NEVER disappoints. Top tier lighting, camerawork, commentary, accessibility, i could go on and on about how much better presented it is but in order to truly see the difference you should watch this and then this.

Also the Arnold is significantly more appealing to mainstream society. It hosts a wide range of sports and gives off a very strong 'health and wellness' vibe. I hope that in a couple of years the bodybuilding meta shifts towards classic physique division at the AC. That's where all the talent is going and that's where the mainstream appeal exists. Bodybuilding needs to step into the 21st century and the Arnold is the gateway to it. Not to mention it is hosted all over the world whereas the Olympia has been headquartered in the USA for two decades, making it impossible for many athletes to compete.

I really hope that the new Olympia owner is passionate about the sport and actually fucking does something to fix the brand but after seeing what they provided us in 2019 (godawful 3rd party stream, godawful lighting/music/production, godawful bob chic for the 32349358th year in a row) it's dead to me. I'm really looking forward to this upcoming Arnold Classic. Also hopefully the Rock's show can spark up a little more mainstream appeal in BB and lead us towards a renaissance of the 90s.

Edit: this begins with the fans and bodybuilding has a sizable online presence. this is one of the biggest bodybuilding forums out there. get the olympia to up their game by being vocally critical of their shitty production
