Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 12:30 AM PST

Get your dunce hats out, Fittit, it's time for your weekly Stupid Questions Thread.

Post your question - stupid or otherwise - here to get an answer. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer. Many questions get submitted late each week that don't get a lot of action, so if your question didn't get answered before, feel free to post it again.

As always, be sure to read the FAQ first.

Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness".

Be sure to check back often as questions get posted throughout the day. Lastly, it may be a good idea to sort comments by "new" to be sure the newer questions get some love as well. Click here to sort by new in this thread only.

So, what's rattling around in your brain this week, Fittit?

As per this thread, the community has asked that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Moronic Monday thread. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.

My uncle gave my this fitness station but I've assembled it wrong. Does anyone know more about this type of station?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 03:28 AM PST

First off here's the pictures I took: https://imgur.com/a/aewyeDK

Also I do not know if this is the proper subreddit to post this so please direct me to the proper one if I'm wrong.

I got this some time ago and assembled it, though it doesn't seem to be working as intended. I'm very new to this so I'll get terms wrong but this is the gist of it:

    • When using the pull down bar everything goes up instead of just the weights
    • The leg thing can't connect to weights (not sure if it's supposed to anyway)
    • When using either the bench press or the one where you pull your arms inward they clash against each other
    • There's several pulleys that don't seem to connect in a meaningful way

The brand is Sven Fitness and I've looked on Google but couldn't find a match for a model number or manual. If I need to provide more information or pictures I'll gladly do that.

Jumping rope, jumping jacks or jumping on spot?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 03:43 AM PST

I travel a lot and it's hard to carry my jumping rope everywhere and harder to find a wide space to perform them. Do jumping jacks and jumping on spot compensate for the same? I don't want to break the routine. Trying to lose some weight.

Is IBW calculator a legit metric to look up to?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:01 AM PST

I'm male 23, 170 cm and 83 kg, doing light exercises 3 times a week. And according to my IBW, I should weigh around 62 kg. To me that number seems ridiculous, I would be a skeleton at that point. Even my girlfriend doesn't weigh that much.

I calculated IBW of some athletes and they look totally fit at 87 kilos mark and yet IBW tells they should weigh around 73. Perhaps I should concentrate more on losing body fat rather than weight? Although my goal is 79 kg still.

Can you develop tolerance to sources of nitric oxide?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 11:49 PM PST

So of course sources of nitric oxide (beets, pomegranates etc) are excellent for boosting blood flow and athletic performance. If consumed on a regular basis , can you effectively develop tolerance to the nitric oxide boosting effects?
