Starting out again, need some help

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:58 AM PST

I was working out just fine and lost about 20pounds before the pandemic (part of it was to not eating properly, if at all) and now that school is over I wanted to get back into it, but I'm finding it difficult to do the exercises again. I've always been pretty weak growing up and still am now (can barely do a proper push-up). I was wondering if anyone has any tips for how to start working out again and target the stomach and arm (trying to lose a bunch of fat)

Is going to the gym/fitness pointless in the end?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:58 PM PST

My boss was discussing how a guy who also works for the company is wasting his time at the gym day and night and calorie counting because as soon as you don't maintain it, all that effort is gone and wasted.

As someone who doesn't go to the gym but does martial arts and is pretty active, I can't help but agree with this to an extent.

Personally, I went through a stage where I'd lift weights at home and overtime I got stronger, but then I got bored and stopped.. and inevitably I got weaker to the point I was back to the same level of weakness I was at when I started.

Again, had a friend of mine get sent to prison for around 2 years, he came out looking like a miniature version of the hulk, but overtime he deflated and lost it all (he's still in reasonably good shape but not where he was at).

Also had a friend who was really into the gym and even walked round with a meal prep bag (smh). He would count calories all day long and do 4hrs gym sessions. He gave it up and now is back to where he started.

With all this in mind I've never truly been able to commit to lifting/gym.. I have started to workout again abit but just wouldn't really want to go through calorie counting etc as it just seems like a way of life you need to always maintain.

Would be interested in hearing the thoughts of others on this.

    Thanks

2021 goal: lose the dad bod

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:02 PM PST

Title says it all. I'm looking to lose some fat next year, but want to get started on it this week. I've already created a new nutritional plan to incorporate more veggies and less sugar and empty carbs into my diet, now it's time to focus on maximizing my workouts.

Today, I lift about 2-3 times a week. I do PPL, and about once a week, I will go on a 3-3.5 mile run. I will continue lifting obviously, but what are some other workouts I can incorporate for burning fat? I'm looking at doing some hiit workouts, as well as playing sports, like basketball, tennis, and golf.

How should I structure my workout plan? PPL, and then hiit, sports or cardio on days I don't lift, and do one rest day a week? How often should I go on a run, or is that something I could do on my off days?

Anything wrong with going from sloth to 3 day split 3x5 and active yoga on the off days?

I don't want to hurt myself but I also worry I give myself too much leeway.

    Confused with weight training

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:33 PM PST

I recently got back to the gym. I've been overwhelmed with thought of where to begin, how to make the most of my time in the gym. 4 years ago I used mass gainer as (1/2 serving) breakfast and other 1/2 serving after workout and lost weight. I just really want to lose weight but afraid I'll gain fat. Kinda feel hopeless in the gym tbh.

    Where to buy dumbbells uk?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:37 PM PST

I've had to cancel my gym membership as I've lost my job so I'm looking for a set of 5kg dumbbells that are pretty cheap.

    Hi friends!

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:02 AM PST

I have recently began some different workout courses, and I am interested in having someone help keep me accountable. I have done well so far but the holidays placed a damper on my routine. I'm not looking for someone who is necessarily doing the same course as I am, I would just like to follow and link with more people who are also beginning with their fitness journey. My twitter is @ defarist and I am posting more often about my workouts on there. I look forward to making new friends on this journey! :)
