Daily Simple Questions Thread - December 19, 2020

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 02:00 AM PST

Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it. Rule #0 still applies in this thread.

Also, there's a handy search function to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search r/Fitness by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to check first are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

If you are posting a routine critique request, make sure you follow the guidelines for including enough detail.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk, chit-chat, jokes, memes, "Dear Diary" type comments, shitposting, or non-fitness questions. It is for fitness questions only, and only those that are serious.)

How much volume is too much volume

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 01:19 AM PST

My mates workouts all take about a hour and have about 4-5 exercises in it, their trainers have said that is the perfect amount of time and exercises. However, my workouts are much higher volume and take around 2 - 2.5 hours. Is this too much considering I'm 16 and have been working out for about 3 years?

One of my workouts (A+B means they're supersetted)

    A - Machine Bench (15kg, 3 x 10) (17.5kg, 2 x 10)

    B - Low Row (25kg, 5 x 12)

    A - Lat Pulldown (15kg, 5 x 10)

    B - Rear Delt Fly (6 stack, 4 x 10)

    A - Tricep Extension (40kg, 4 x 14)

    B - Wide Grip Incline Db Curls (7.5kg, 4 x 14)

    A - Incline Dumbbell Bench (17.5kg, 4 x 10)

    B- Chest Flyes (25kg, 4 x 12)

    Plank (2:40)

    Lateral Raises (7kg, 3 x 16)

Edit: I shoulder mention I'm nursing a shoulder injury so pressing weights r a lot lower than usual also the cable machines at my gym have a lot of mechanical advantage which explains the heavy weight tricep extensions and chest flyes
