Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it.

Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to search are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

Be aware that the more relevant information you add, the more relevant the answers you receive will be. And if you are posting about your routine, please make sure you follow the guidelines.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk or chit-chat. Also, the community decided long ago that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Daily Q&A threads. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.)

Breathe into the belly first and then brace or the other way around? (squats/deadlift)

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 06:02 PM PDT

When doing beltless squats and deadlifts, should I breathe into my belly, expanding the entire core and then contract the abs OR contract the abs first then breathe into the belly?

I personally find my core to be tighter when I contract the abs first then breathe into the belly but not sure if this correct or not.

    Whey isolate or Whey protein?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:02 AM PDT

Hey guys/girls, Since a few months i'm focusing on muscle building! However i want(ed) to lose weight and build up muscle, so i use(d) supplements like protein shakes, but i'm a beginner and i do not really understand all do's and dont's.. Currently i'm using whey protein but on the internet a lot of people say that Whey isolate is better or that Whey protein is more useful for beginners... What should i use? Thanks

    Time between sets

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:01 AM PDT

Basically the above text. I'm new to fitness and excercises (weight training, gym, etc). What should be the ideal time between sets, and rounds? Also what are the common do's and don'ts between sets and rounds?

How long should my first bulk be as a beginner?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 04:53 AM PDT

Hi I've been lifting very consistently for the first time ever since the gyms reopened in September and I've definitely been seeing improvements both in how much I'm lifting and how I look. The only problem is I started out with a "skinny fat" body type so my plan has been bulk until I have enough muscle that it would look good after I cut. I'm male currently 22 years old, 6'6" 225 pounds, 19% body fat, 45.4% muscle mass. My question is how long should I stay bulking for if I want to eventually cut down to 10-13% body fat for next summer. I was thinking maybe I should start cutting in March but I wanted the opinions of some more experienced lifters!

    Tips on using the scale

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 04:30 AM PDT

I was just wondering what tips you guys know, that improves the accuracy of the scale's observation of your body fat/muscle percentages since I've read somewhere that fat is sometimes mistaken for water, so is there anything you can do really in order to get better readings on the scale?
