    Changing my body shape

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 05:23 PM PDT

    Hello!

I'm looking for some advice as to how I can alter my body shape (specifically my waist and hips), and well as just general fitness advice. If anybody has any ideas, I would really appreciate it!

A little bit of background: I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to exercise. I have been chronically ill my entire life and exercise has always triggered a relapsed when I have attempted to do exercise in the past. However, I feel as though I am at a stage in my recovery now where I think that exercise might be okay. I've been going to the gym 4 times a week for 6 months now, doing resistance band workouts, step machine workouts, elliptical workouts etc. At the moment, I'm doing a 5k run every other day, a 10k bike ride every other day, and an abs workout everyday (mostly consisting of Russian Twists, double crunches, and leg raises). I have been doing this now for 3 weeks - how long do you think it will be until I start to notice progress in my body muscle definition?

Secondly, I'm just very unhappy with the general shape of my body. I've become extra self-conscious about it recently as I overheard a conversation about me that I wasn't supposed to hear where one person said: "she's built like an iPhone but she's ok I guess". And it kinda just knocked my confidence completely. But it is true - I am built like a brick lol. I don't know why. For context, I have lived with anorexia on and off since I was about 13 (I'm almost 20 now) - I don't know whether this has anything to do with it, but because of my low body weight I didn't really hit puberty until rather late, so perhaps it stunted my growth in the hip department (as I know women's hips get wider during adolescence). I have also been taking medicinal steroids for my chronic disease for 15+ years now, which stunts growth also. So do you think I will never have a desirable body shape simply because of the way my skeleton is built? Because even at my lowest weight, I didn't have a small waist. I've tried putting on weight, but the weight doesn't go to my hips or bum but just goes to my face and to the front of my tummy. Basically, what I am saying is that I'm tired of looking like a child and I want to have a small waist and bigger hips. I hate my hip dip and I hate my square waist, and I would REALLY like to finally have a bum haha. I'm just at a loss of what to do in terms of exercise or weight - do I try to put on weight? Do I try and lose weight again? Will I always look like this or is it something I can actually fix if I work on it?

Sorry that was so long and rambling. I just really don't know what to do so please if you have any advice I would really appreciate it because I am really dumb and under-confident when it comes to exercise but I just really want to change for the better. I don't want to be 'built like an iPhone' anymore.

    Thank you!!

As a really skinny guy (110lb/50kg) I am trying to build muscles for over 4 weeks. How long will it take for me to see progress

I use evil Russian push up program for my upper body and the app 30 days six pack for my lower body.

I am not an impatient guy and I know that it takes a lot of time to build muscle but I just wanted to ask so I could understand if I'm doing anything wrong.

Why fitness is the essence of public health

    Article source : https://blue-mooon.com/2020/04/09/why-fitness-is-the-essence-of-public-health/

If you are looking forward to overall wellness, then you have got to know that fitness is the essence of it. Unlike popular perception, achieving fitness is not that difficult. You can't judge the fitness of a person by just looking at that person. Experiences have taught me that the fittest looking person might not be the one who impresses you with his or her fitness levels. So, it's pointless to have unrealistic views about fitness. As far as fitness is concerned, the health of your heart is extremely important. Probably, you lack a typically "fit" looking body. But that doesn't mean that you are not fit. You can be fit irrespective of the way your body looks. Cardio fitness is a real measure of fitness. If you are serious about fitness, then you have to channel your energies to improve the health of your heart. When your heart is healthy, other aspects like increased lung capacity, strong bones, strong muscles, weight loss, etc. will follow.

    Understanding the concept of fitness

In today's world obsessed with fitness, we have complicated the concept of fitness. According to the basic definition, fitness is all about your ability to carry out your daily chores without fatigue. A fit person will be able to carry out his chores with alertness and vigor. Back in the day, people used to have that ability. They were all physically active. They were all fit. So, there was no need to talk about fitness. However, things have changed a lot. Lifestyle diseases have become common these days. We do very little physical activities as our jobs force us to stay glued to our seats all day long with zero physical activity. And that has contributed to a lot of lifestyle diseases. No wonder why we talk about fitness more these days because we are all worried about our fitness levels. Lack of physical activities made us susceptible to all sorts of health problems.

    Significance of fitness

The sedentary lifestyle has made way for a lot of diseases. And people have realized the significance of regular exercise to stay fit. However, not too many can follow it given the hectic lifestyle. If you want to stay away from many diseases, then it is important to do cardio exercise regularly. As we all know, heart disease has been one of the notorious silent killers. Stroke, diabetes, colon cancer, etc. are other diseases that are connected to a lack of fitness. There are plenty of benefits to regular exercise. Besides the health benefits, you will be able to control your weight as well. In turn, you will be able to fight to age too.

    Psychological benefits of exercise

Exercise has many psychological benefits as well. When you exercise, it releases the feel-good hormone endorphins, which significantly reduces stress. And it will elevate your mood as well. It can fight depression as well. If you are one of those fitness freaks who exercise daily, then you will have a positive attitude towards life. Also, you tend to have better self-esteem. Exercise gives you better sleep at night. You never complain about fatigue either. Last but not least, regular exercise can improve your memory as well.

Free Google Sheet Home Exercise Program

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:28 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I hope you're doing well and staying healthy during these crazy times.

I'm a physical therapist assistant, strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer. I've been out of work for a while now and haven't had a gym in over a month, so I decided to make a home exercise program where all you need is a backpack, some books, and a chair/coffee table.

In my opinion, everyone needs access to some sort of workout program right now. My goal with this is to give people structure and give them something that'll clear their mind, get outside, and stay healthy. I know I am using this time to get good at all the stuff I typically neglected in the gym like sprints.

    Program Overview

    • The program is 4 weeks long and 6 workouts per week.
    • There are 3 strength days and 3 conditioning days.
    • You'll get out what you put in with this program.
    • Workouts consist of:
      • Plyometrics
      • Hill Sprints
      • Two "pump" days (hypertrophy/strength)
      • Three conditioning challenge days

There's a lot of spots where you could coast through but if you hover around 70%-80% of your max effort, you're going to see changes in weight loss, strength and performance.
Below is the link to the program. It contains my newsletter sign up if you're interested in posture, fitness, and health info.

    Free Home Exercise Program

I am doing a paid version that has a bunch of cool community features, progress tracking, and direct messaging to me all in an app. Below is a link if you're interested in that. I promise it's the same program more organized than a google sheet. Here's a video of the features:

I hope all of you stay well and healthy. Let me know if you have any questions about the program!
