Welcome to the /r/Fitness Daily Simple Questions Thread - Our daily thread to ask about all things fitness. Post your questions here related to your diet and nutrition or your training routine and exercises. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer.

As always, be sure to read the wiki first. Like, all of it.

Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search fittit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com/r/fitness" after your search topic.

Other good resources to search are Exrx.net for exercise-related topics and Examine.com for nutrition and supplement science.

Be aware that the more relevant information you add, the more relevant the answers you receive will be. And if you are posting about your routine, please make sure you follow the guidelines.

(Please note: This is not a place for general small talk or chit-chat. Also, the community decided long ago that we keep jokes, trolling, and memes outside of the Daily Q&A threads. Please use the downvote / report button when necessary.)

How to get back into shape after months of being sick?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 11:21 PM PDT

Used to workout at 5 time a week, at times 7 times since i was super active. But during march i got sick and have been sick since then with multiple waves and symptoms. As of last week i feel like Im finally at the point of being able to workout. Im weak and all my muscles disappeared, but I know how to build muscle slowly and getting back to it.

The only thing is that I now have GI issues atm and am taking anti acids. Hoping the medication cures it with time. Anyone else get sick for a long time and had to get back into it like me with prolonged symptoms and done well? How'd you change your diet or workout routine to slowly get back into the grove of things without over doing it on your body?

For context im 24m and have been pretty healthy and active this last decade. Its just that a virus has kicked my ass and now im at square one. I gained a bunch of weight and just want to get back to my old self.

Rarely workout but I’m still maintaining fair amount of muscle?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 04:54 AM PDT

i don't often work out (though I do start every now and then for 2-3 weeks before quitting) but it seems I have gained and have kept a reasonable amount of muscle in my arms etc despite not having the best diet either, been about 3 months since my last workout. Not too urgent, just a bit curious.

Would it be possible to dunk at 5’5?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 03:49 AM PDT

I'm a 19 year old 5'5-5'6 male weighing at about 120 pounds. I was talking with my friends about this and some seemed to believe it was impossible, even with a lot of training, to dunk on a regular 10 foot rim.

I would consider myself pretty athletic, I used to play/compete in basketball tourneys and play some other sports too. I could touch and 'clap' the backboard with a ball easily and could almost touch the rim. My barbell squat is only 155 lbs, though (tryna get that up :/).

Question: Could I honestly touch the rim within a year of training and what exercises/routine would I have to follow?

    is my goal attainable ?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 01:11 AM PDT

Hello, i am sebastian , i am 14 years of age, 5'11, and 150 pounds and have a body fat percentage of 19.1%. a month ago i started with a waist measurement of 3 feet and a body fat percentage of 20.9% and 155 pounds . i was tired of being on the chunkier side so i started working out and dieting , i started lifting weights and doing hiit on a treadmill (10mph for 40 seconds then switching to 3.5 mph for 2 minutes , i repeated this process until i got to about 30 mins). i also stopped eating bread and sugary food , and stopped drinking all sugary drinks . i now have a waist measurement of 2 feet and 10.5 inches , and have a body fat percentage of 19.1%. so i lost about 1.8% in a month. my goal is to lose another 1.8% this month to get to a 17.3% body fat percentage. so my question is , is it possible to reach my goal?

How to get rid of funnel chest and fill out my arms from the front?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:32 AM PDT

    Hi there!

I've been working out for a couple of months now and have been making some strides but too big areas I've tried working on haven't seen much change.

The only posts I found about this were years old and didn't really answer my question. I started working out primarily because I wanted to get rid of the large divot near the bottom of my inner chest, as it goes in about an inch, but while the rest of my chest has seen improvements, nothing has really changed there, though I've tried several exercises.

Another problem area has been that while my arms have gotten bigger, from the front they still seem slim on the side facing into my body and I have no idea how to fix it.

As a note, I mostly do bodyweight workouts but if necessary can do more traditional weight workouts to fix these issues.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance!

Hiring a bikini competition trainer, have a few questions?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 10:53 PM PDT

I am going ahead and hiring a bikini competition trainer. He works with several girls who compete professionally.

I personally do not think I will ever compete. Maybe if I got very good, but unlikely. My body goals are 2001 Britney Spears- how she looked at the VMAS lol

I used to be quite muscular but then I got into a car accident and have a chronic illness. I'm well enough to begin training again. I am still decently muscular and workout but certainly not at a fitness competition level.

My questions are: 1. How often should I train to make it worthwhile (ie once a week once a month etc) 2. What is the average price per hour for a personal trainer? 3. How soon can I expect to see results? Is it reasonable to think I will look noticeably different in 6 months even if I haven't reached my goals?

I am 5'2 120lbs my body fat is about 24%

Guys please help me lose skin. Not weight. Skin.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 01:42 AM PDT

To clarify, not literally 'lose' the skin - that was more a figurative thing to try to convey I have no real fat on my body with it. I know it's not going go hard reset to what it was, I realise it's probably more about improving the appearance, but please help me do that in any way I can.

I have one huge insecurity in myself, and that's that since several years ago when I was put onto medication that caused my body weight to more than double and then I subsequently lost that weight after I was finished with that medication (I'm betterer in the brain now, yay~), I've had so much lose skin on my stomach area in particular but also chest/breast area.

I'm a small person, but I'm still in my 20s so my skin shouldn't be packing it in too much with elasticity yet, and I do need to gain some weight (currently less than I was as a healthy and active teenager by about 10kg), but gaining a little weight alone won't tighten that skin completely.

It really shredded me when doctors began asking how many children I have had after seeing my stomach - I haven't had any by the way. But, I know it can be done, I've seen celebrities have kids for days and they get their skin back in pretty tops shape, pretty tight at least and that's in like their 40s.

Please, please, please tell me what exercise I gotta do to tighten up my skin esp on tum/chest area??

I swear to god if I can't do even one of that exercise then damn it I'll do one a day every day until I can get to two, I'm just so sick and tired of hating how I look, and hiding my body from my partner, especially when he's naturally so slim and athletic - I feel like such a blob in comparison so I'm desperate to not feel so shitty, I just need anyone to tell me the way, please?

TL;DR had to get meds, got fat, got better, got thin, gotta lose the loose skin. Please somebody tell me how, what exercises to do so I can look them up and learn myself how to do them??

Can you control your weight distribution?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 10:29 PM PDT

Title. I have really bad weight distribution where all of my weight goes to my stomach and chest which makes it really difficult to have visible abs and pecs even though I have 13% body fat
